Ugly World!
What an ugly place our world has become:
with shootings, thefts, rapes and murders.
How did this happen? When did it get so bad?
Crime is up and lock ups are not.
Some people get away with this,
knowing they won’t get locked up!
Wars are raging and continue on
in so many places in our world.
Too many leaders craving power
When one war ends, another begins.
Will the bleeding and hatred ever stop?
What an ugly place our world has become!
You fear for your life when you leave home!
Scared that something bad could happen.
Looking over your shoulder, unsure if you’re safe.
Afraid to talk to a stranger anywhere.
You cannot be friendly as you want to be.
What an ugly place our world has become!
After an errand has been run,
experts tell you not to linger in your car.
Don’t do anything as you are a target for
something bad to happen to you.
Carjacking is alarmingly prevalent.
What an ugly place our world has become!
Don’t open the door of your home
if the bell rings or there is a knock.
It could be someone to rob or harm you.
You cannot be too careful anymore.
We’ve learned to be suspicious of strangers.
What an ugly place our world has become!
A former president was almost killed!
They say the bullet just missed his brain.
He turned his head slightly, so his ear was struck.
It was a very close call to him being dead.
Must Americans relive this agony again?
What an ugly place our world has become!
How much longer can this go on in our world?
Will the ugliness ever go away completely?
What coping mechanisms do we need to learn?
Why must there be so much hate and crime?
How do we keep ourselves safe from harm?
What an ugly place our world has become!

Marlene–I hear your fears and they are real. at the same time, the more we become preoccupied with them, the more we give into a closed, terrified life. it is a conundrum. for me, the worst things are the closed minds and lack of communication between those we meet on a daily basis. just dealing with people in shops, or, ahem, doctors’ offices, there can be a lot of confusion because people are plugged into their own reality and do not allow presence of mind to really focus on another person. those are crimes against the spirit, if you ask me, for which there is no legal remedy. Boy, Marlene. Totally agree with you!
