Sparkling Diamond Chips

Her teeny ears were pierced when she was four
The sparkling diamond chips we couldn’t ignore

These were the special ones that she chose
Wearing every day so the holes wouldn’t close

Alas, two years later one earring was lost
While sleeping at Grandma’s, but at what cost?

We searched the bedding for the earring so tiny
Knowing it might be found because it was shiny

Sadly, we gave up the search after many hours
Finding that earring was not in our powers

Two days later while on hands and knees
Behold! What did Grandma finally see!

Among a pile of Legos she saw a gold backing
But the diamond earring itself was still lacking.

A search the next day produced the diamond stud
Thank goodness — on the carpet and not in the mud!
