Ode to Eggs

Share our stories on social media:

With Passover approaching
And no eggs to beat
What in the world
Will my family eat?

Millions of chickens
Have been killed
Feathers a flying
Against their will.

Eight dollars a dozen!
That can’t be true!
When will we be rid
Of this nasty bird flu?

When prices go up
They never go down.
See all the shoppers
No smiles, just frowns.

Signs say take one dozen
And not one carton more.
Who is enforcing this,
Rationing as in war?

Millions of birds dying for the cause,
Guess there goes my fluffy soufflé.
Vegan substitutes – not quite the same
’Cause scrambled eggs make my day!

Passover this year will be strange.
How will we know what to bake?
With no sponge cake, mousse or rolls
How much more can we take?

And what about matza brei –
Now a thing of the past?
Along with my six-egg quiche.
A dozen eggs will not last!

Easter eggs…what do I care?
They can be made of plastic.
But Passover without eggs
Won’t be too fantastic.

  1. Love this it made me smile just like the picture. I have faith that we have eggs and then you can write a new poem about it.
