We Told You So

Almost one month ago
Our country was dealt a terrible blow
But to other countries also
Greenland, Gaza and Mexico

Canada, despite being our friend
Is also getting the short end
Soon we’ll have our clothes to rend
As so much more we’ll have to spend

It’s seems to be as bad as it gets
But then more tariffs and more threats
We don’t know where to place our bets
The pile gets higher with our debts

With our ballot we paid the price
Truly things aren’t very nice
Americans feeling the heat from ICE
So much more is part of the heist

Instead of counting sheep at night
I count abuses and lost rights
All the diseases we’ll have to fight
Plus the overall general blight

Criminals were released from jail
Government workers have to bail
Cabinet appointments? Beyond the pale
How many souls are up for sale?

Can we make it through two more years?
Is there hope to quell our tears?
Things to do to assuage our fears
As our doomsday draws so near

We cannot merely wring our hands
We must do things to save our land
Organize! Every woman and man
Come up with ways, means and plans
