Geraniums for My Mama
Geraniums for my Mama
Geraniums we grow
We watch them all summer
In the stone pots down below
50 some years those pots they sit
So strong, so still,
Watching our lives
Near the steps down the hill
The secrets, the stories, those stone pots could tell
Like an interesting book, one we know so well
On porch chairs, on the steps, on the railing we sat
With friends and family, this and that
Bubbie and Zayde, neighbors and friends
Aunts and Uncles, Grandma Esther and Grandpa Ben
Grandma Bessie, not Grandpa David, who we never knew
Babies and teenagers, we watched as they grew
Daddy worked hard, those stone pots would say
Coming and going, everyday
Mama had babies, to care for and love
Fix the house, sweep the porch, cook and bake, it all fit like a glove
Sunshine and rain, snowballs and hail
Our stone pots have nearby now an additional rail
School and jobs, marriages too
Friends and family, old and new
Sad, sad goodbyes to those we hold dear
The love never dies, we keep you so near
Geraniums for my Mama
Geraniums we grow
We watch them all summer
In the stone pots down below
