Nobody Wins a War

Share our stories on social media:

Nobody ever wins a war
What do we always do this for?
Despite the legendary lore
It is delusions of grandeur
And all the money that we pour
Instead of some other succor

Why do we ever go to war?
Is it only just for pow-war [sic]?
For gaining land – just more and more
For seeking revenge from before
To try to even up the score
Or something else within our core

Maybe it helps some mighty dol-lore [sic]
But not the simple people or poor
‘cause worldly shortages we pay for
Making even simple prices soar
We know this lately, also of yore
From history, stories heretofore

bombed out buildings

Possibly, we’re still not sure
Since no one ever wins the war
There’s suffering forever more
For every side there is hor-war [sic]
Of the constant blood, death and gore.
From bullets, bombs and rockets roar
It’s not like we don’t know the score

But no one ever wins a war
Yet we do it over and o’er
Maybe the prize: we gain more land
Politicians think this is grand
No matter which side fate may choose
No one wins; everyone will lose

Rather than keep anyone buoyed
War just knows defeat and destroy
Not just people decapitated
Whole cities can be decimated
With buildings dilapidated
Yet the hate not dissipated

A soldier and his wounded comrade
