Snowstorm
They’re calling for a winter storm,
and we should all stay home.
College kids should stay in the dorm
so they won’t have to roam.
We’ve been advised that we should now
stock up on so many things.
The roads may not see a snow plow
as this is what winter brings.
The food store had run out of stuff,
so we didn’t know what to buy.
Going through the aisles became tough;
we almost wanted to cry.
We didn’t listen to, “Beware.”
We rushed to get our shopping done.
Lots of shelves were very bare
with so many items gone.

Milk, bread and eggs were few,
and we needed some of each.
Our best is all that we could do,
but the eggs were out of reach!
Already, the eggs had all sold out,
but then I spotted some more.
Now I really wanted to shout
when I saw the price tag near the floor!
We grabbed one dozen right away,
so no one else could get them.
This felt like our lucky day
that we’d even found this gem.
You’d think it was a jewelry store,
we didn’t want to panic.
The price of eggs could make us poor
because they were organic.
The check-out line was not too long
and my husband filled each tote.
He carried them as he was strong
after we buttoned our coats.
Now our pantry is well-stocked
with all the food we need.
Going home, some roads were blocked,
but we got everything indeed.
