Chanukah
’Twas the first night of Chanukah
and all through the home
all was a hurry and scurry
and I’m not alone.
Beginning at sunset,
eight special nights
And the house, of course,
is always a fright.
Christmas is really
just one night and day
But oh, we Jews —
we do have our way.
Even the spelling
can make you quite crazy
The “C” or an “H”
the beginning of hazy.
Nothing is easy:
we make everything hard.
But at least there’s a week
for sending a card.
The meals, not so fancy
but still loved by all.
The tasty servings
are never small.
There’s shopping and chopping,
and, of course, the frying.
It’s a lot of hard work,
I’m really not lying.
While some “kops”*
are “fadreying”**
Children with dreidels
are playing.
Although both in December
Chanukah’s not big.
It’s that other holiday
that made it a gig.
Our thing is the lighting
of the festive menorah
with family all gathered,
and dancing the hora.
Saying the prayers
and singing a song
hoping the family
will all get along.
That is my wish
for the whole world too
And so I’m saying
to all of you:
HAPPY HOLIDAYS, HEALTH, PEACE & PROSPERITY IN 2026!
